Greetings to our new families!

Welcome back to our returning families!

Since Kindergarten, you’ve seen first hand PTA’s indispensable role in supporting our children’s education, our school staff, and our parents.  Together, there is much we can accomplish.  Become a PTA member, a volunteer, an event coordinator or a financial investor in PTA!  The opportunities abound, please take advantage of them.

PTA spent this spring considering how demands on our families have changed our PTA in terms of parent involvement and the need for PTA programs.  We discussed in-depth how our PTA must change to support our families.  As a result, PTA is changing what we focus our engery, time, and dollars on.  Our mission is “Togetherness” – providing opportunities for students to get together, fostering school spirit, and building strong parent-student-teacher connections. Whatever we do will directly connect to our Togetherness theme.

Because PTA appreciates how generously our members have given of their time and dollars, we take seriously our responsibility, especially in this economy, to raise only as much money as needed.  Based on what is best for our members, we are making some changes.

What will be different?  We won’t be asking families to sell anything! Instead, our two primary efforts will be to host spirit nights at a few local eateries (Chick-fil-A to name one) and ask for a tax-deductible donation made directly to our PTA.  We have developed an austere budget that will be presented at Back-To-School Night.  We will keep our pledge of no product selling by scaling back our programs if not enough funds are raised.

You will find on your membership form an opportunity to directly donate to PTA.  We are hoping to raise $4,000 through direct donations.  It is ambitious goal but hopefully an attainable one.  Remember, your donation is tax deductible and PTA receives and uses every penny for our programs.  With product selling, we received only 15- 40% of the sales.  Consider this a direct investment in your child’s education!  PTA supports student recognition programs, after-school programs like table soccer, MESA, and the drama club; the 8th grade dance; PAAS; and in-school needs like recess equipment, school supplies (tissues), the enrichment fair; and for the staff, teacher conference dinners.  For families, PTA provides the student directory, supports HC Drug Free publications, and sponsors the Year-end Beach Blast.  PTA programs accompanied with strong parent involvement and advocacy have been shown to make a substantial difference in quality of education our children receive.

Patapsco Middle School PTA has a long and strong tradition of parent and community support. With your assistance, this tradition will continue to flourish.

Thank you in advance for your generous support of your PTA!

Best Wishes,

Linda Dombrowski, President
